Design Inspiration

Created by Darryl
Bellotti, an Indigenous artist of both Yamatji and Nyoongar descent,
the design is inspired by his boyhood memories of a hunting trip in
north-western Australia.  The turtle is surrounded by patterns
of dots, symbolising the hunters’ journey, and circles,
representing the places where they stopped.

under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the coin bears the Ian
Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the monetary
denomination on its obverse.
